The Heart Behind The Soulful Stone

When people ask how The Soulful Stone began, I never quite know whether to start with my love of the outdoors, my years of teaching, or the simple joy of making something with my hands. The truth is, this little creative world of mine grew from all of those things — woven together by a deep need for connection, authenticity, and a space where people can simply be themselves.

For years, carving has been my quiet place. A block of aerated concrete might look unremarkable at first, but the moment the first cut is made, something shifts. Time slows. Thoughts soften. You fall into that lovely absorbing state where your hands lead the way and the noise of life takes a step back. It’s mindful without trying to be. Honest without words. Creative without pressure.

Over time, friends, family, and the curious started asking if they could “have a go.”

I watched people — people who swore they weren’t artistic — light up as their own creations emerged from the dust.

Their confidence grew with every little notch and curve. Some laughed, some relaxed so deeply they forgot to speak, and some opened up in ways they didn’t expect. It wasn’t just crafting… it was connection.

That’s when I realised I wasn’t just carving stone alternatives — I was carving spaces for people. Safe, warm, human spaces where creativity becomes a doorway into something deeper: joy, calm, community, and that lovely sense of

“I made this.”

I chose the name The Soulful Stone because it reflects what this journey feels like to me. It’s about giving life to something humble and overlooked. It’s about creating pieces that carry story and intention. And it’s about the people who walk into my workshops — each one bringing their own spark, humour, courage, or curiosity.

Whether you come alone, with a friend, as a couple, or as a group, my hope is always the same: that you leave feeling a little lighter, a little braver, and a little more connected — to yourself, to others, and maybe even to the natural world around us.

Here’s to carving, creativity, and all the soulful bits in between.
